If any of you are fans of literature, then you will of course be familiar with the Victor Hugo saga, “Les Miserables”. The protagonist of our story, Jean Valjean, actually carried a dude through the sewers – so they painted a picture of it because…well, because why not class up a sewer with a painting of a famous fictional character?

There is one very important thing to remember before heading underground the explore the historic Paris sewer system: always dress appropriately.

“…Paris has another Paris under herself; a Paris of sewers; which has its streets, its crossings, its squares, its blind alleys, its arteries, and its circulation, which is slime, minus the human form.”

– Les Miserables, Jean Valjean; Book II, ch.1
