Tied Within

Tied Within is a quirky yet gritty novella for fans of S.E. Hinton or Catcher in the Rye.

It’s when you’re a teenager that you get to decide who you’re going to be. For Theresa, it means renaming herself Bronwyn and reconstructing every detail about her appearance. Dominic decides it means shaving his hair into a mohawk and emulating his punk rock idols. Their best friend Ivy still can’t figure out who she is, but she knows she’d give anything to be more than the little girl who survived the brutal murder of her parents at the hands of a deranged serial killer. All three friends are running from the hand they’ve been dealt, but in a single night, they’ll be forced to reckon with reality at a terrible cost.

Set in northern Colorado in the early 90s, Tied Within is a story about what it means to feel like a weirdo while searching for an identity in a world that has already decided who you are.

Misunderstood and overlooked human beings are everywhere around us, and have a story to tell to those who are willing to listen. You Don’t See Any of This is an emotional, quirky, and sometimes dangerous tour through the lives of downtrodden, regular, working-class characters who inhabit complicated inner worlds. A brutal man finds his humanity while a young girl finds the killer inside her. Human Detritus is a collection of nine short works about the kind of people we’ve all encountered: a victim. A teacher. A dysfunctional family. A slut and a factory worker. Told with caustic anger and sardonic humor, these are stories of human debris left behind by some and absorbed by others.

Tales of surviving, failing and awakening, Human Detritus is an examination of the impact that every day nobodies make on one another, leaving us all a little less rotten or maybe a little more despicable in the process.

Featuring Rasmenia’s Pushcart Prize nominated novella, Circuits End.

Our editor declared these novellas the best of the best among this collection. If you must only pick up one book of this volume, then this is the one to choose. Although, in all fairness, they are all pretty amazing. Don’t choose. Get them all.

“Taken together, what connects these mostly engaging stories are a sympathy and humor for life’s outcasts… the anthology is always entertaining and lives up to its title. A collection that delivers a strange and ultimately satisfying ride.” -Kirkus Reviews
